You turn to page 29, and see that the following has been written down in an impossibly messy handwriting:

1. Mix together flour, salt, baking powder and sugar in a bowl. Set aside. Preheat waffle iron.
2. In a separate bowl, beat eggs, then stir in milk, butter and vanilla (lots). Pour into the other bowl. Beat until blended.
3. Ladle the batter into the waffle iron. Cook the waffles until golden and crisp. Serve immediately.
