Rules of the Library

Hiro's Hoot House

A plaque sits in nailed, gilded picture frame in the Foyer of the Library, just high enough to be out of reach to any human and just low enough for the words to be legible. But they are faded and covered in dust… you are too preoccupied with other sights, sounds, and sensations at this time to look closer…

With the addition of 'Hiro's Hoot House' to your Tome, two lines in red ballpoint pen also manifest in bubbly lettering:

  • Only six people allowed in the Aviary on the third floor at a time. 1)
  • Everywhere, except for the cafe on the second floor, quiet voices are required. Otherwise you will disturb the owls! 2)

Amenken's Tomb

A heavy stone door slams shut behind you, unseen yet very clearly heard. On the stairwell that lies before you, you read the following warning:

Beware those who enter the eternal resting place

Of Great Amenken and those who earned his grace.

Only pain will come to those deaf to this verse;

His treasure may be vast, but far worse is this curse.

Immediately after you read this, the message is copied out into your Tome. At the same time, two comments appear in writing that may or may not be familiar to you…

  • “Ooooooh boy, hope these Chosen don't believe in ghosts!” 3)
  • “Ah, forget ghosts you dummy - I hope these Chosen can move quick!” 4)
1)
Entrance can only be granted by a staff member.
2)
Mechanically, this means that PCs with Quiet (-) will have a distinct advantage in exploring this Library while PCs with Loud (-) will have a more difficult time interacting with Guests, especially owl NPCs.
3)
Superstitious characters may have more trouble exploring all or some parts of this Library, and venturing into certain rooms may come at a cost. (It is up to you to decide just how restrictive this playstyle quirk will be for your superstitious character).
4)
Mechanically, Nimble and/or Athletic characters will have a much easier time traversing most rooms in this Library. Conversely, clumsy characters, or those whose Flamingo quirks may impair their movement, will struggle a lot more.
