Think of all the activities that take place in a library every day: books on high shelves must be reached, sleek papers stamped, lights shone on faded lyrics... Every library needs employees to keep it open, and ours are no different. Their bodies may be those of inanimate objects, but each of them has eons of experience under their proverbial belts, having hopped from destroyed library to destroyed library for millennia. Some will even be happy to aid you in your mission. Below, you may reference a list of our most trustworthy employees.

===== Shifting Book Ladders =====

These restless ladders will help you reach books hidden even in the highest of shelves. However, it is often them who decide what shelves look most interesting to explore. You can try dialoguing with the ladders, but once you start the climb, you must accept you're in their domain now. Thus, don't be surprised when they decide to whisk you off from the Ancient History section to the Entomology bookcase.

===== Reference Reapers =====
//"Cite your sources, they said. Don't forget your footnotes, they threatened."//

With senses as sharp as their blades, these floating scythes' only purpose is to stop any and all signs of plagirism. They will gladly point you towards the latest editions of the referencing manual you're after, but will outright refuse to write your references for you. "Whatchu on about? Referencing builds character!" they'll screech, waving their blades dangerously close to your face. If they catch you copying from a book for an essay without the proper citation however, they will not show such mercy.

===== Señor Stamp (He/Him) =====

This being is just your friendly neighbourhood stamp. Make sure to visit him whenever you are checking out a book, or returning one, as each has to be stamped accordingly. Señor Stamp works diligently and is always cordial, although slamming his face into books for eons on end has rendered him quite a peculiar character. He is always happy to chat about the collections he knows well, and will often slip into Spanish as he does so.

===== Orb-Orbs =====

These bright little orbs are often found dancing around the library, doing little orb things like blinking in and out of existence and randomly changing colours. They tend to be friendlier than their lamp counterparts, but more fickle. Some guests have been known to confuse them with fairies.

Though, if they are anything like fey folk, maybe it isn't such a good idea to accept the tea they provide in the Foyer...((But it //is// very delicious tea... And their lingonberry scones are to //die// for!)) 

===== Spider Transit System =====

Every library needs a way to transport books to where they need to be. One of these ways involves spiders. Teams of these many-legged beings work together to retrieve, transport, and deliver books to readers, no matter the topic or the length of the tome. To make a book retrieval request to the Spider Transit System, just pull on one of the spiderwebs scattered around the library, and a member of the team will scuttle over, ready to help. 

Your book may take a while to arrive, as spiders are not very big creatures, but they'd want you to know that they're doing their best.

===== Laughing Lamps =====

Orb-Orbs' one-legged cousins, these table lamps tend to be found hopping around reading desks, looking for the next book they can devour. However, their standards for quality are very high, and they often can't resist making a mean-spirited joke about every text they shine a light on. //"What a load of rubbish!"// they cackle as they turn away from one book and off to another. They are often know to leave helpless readers in the dark. 

===== The Intern (They/Them)=====

The only human Eternal Employee known to date, the Intern is about as human as humans can get. While their appearance, gender, age, and race are known to change from library to library, they never fail to look totally, perhaps extraordinarily, average. Except for their face, which you should not stare at for too long, if ever. 

This should not be too hard to achieve, however, as the Intern is often glimpsed only in passing, rushing to replace the ink in empty inkwells, or to help Urick detach their latest read from their back. Again.

Feel free to contact them if the [[pests#overdue|Overdue Book List]] is being a little too insistent, or if you need some antihistamines to deal with your dust bunny allergy. They are great at the most menial of tasks!
